Neal Peterson
Neal Peterson had known pawpaw trees all his life - they grew in the woods behind his boyhood home in southern West Virginia. But he had never tasted the fruit, until 1975, while he was studying plant genetics at West Virginia University. He tasted his first pawpaw and remarked: "How come something that tastes this good has never been domesticated, and sold in grocery stores?" And with that germ of an idea, Neal became a pawpaw plant breeder.
